Healthy Date and Cacao Energy Balls

Healthy chocolate cacao date coconut energy balls

These quick and easy cacao, date and coconut energy balls give you all the energy and nutrients you need from a healthy snack.

Whatever you call them, these healthy energy balls are absolutely delicious, nutritious and made from four “super foods”, dates, nuts, cacao and coconut. This is a great cacao recipe, so I have always called them Choc Fudge Balls, because of the taste and texture of these little treats! I really find they are a great pick me up, giving me extra energy when my energy levels are dropping. Plus they are so quick and easy to make, even for the kids to help with the rolling, and great for a quick breakfast on the go!

(Disclaimer – As long as your children can eat nuts!)

Ingredients

2 cups dates

2 cups of Macadamia nuts

1/2 cup of organic raw Cacao Powder

1 tsp very fine orange zest

1 tablespoon orange juice

Organic coconut to roll the choc balls in

Method:

Soak the nuts overnight to activate them. It makes them easier to digest.

Wash the dates in slightly cooled boiling water, and remove the pips.

Drain nuts and blend until quite fine. I like to retain some texture.

Add the dates and blend, then add the Cocao Powder, orange zest and orange juice and mix.

(Adding the orange zest gives them a Jaffa-like taste!)

Roll into small balls and then roll them in coconut.

Keep in the fridge until needed, or you can freeze them as well.

You can use any dried fruits, goji berries are another favourite of mine but do need to be soaked prior to using and they are another “super food” and any combination of soaked nuts!  This is a really great cacao recipe though, so do try and use the best cacao and don’t substitute for cocoa powder.

There are so many alternatives to this recipe so just use your imagination to create your favourite “healthy energy balls”.
