Hypnotherapy to help you sleep better

Hypnotherapy can help sleep disorders

Why bad sleep is bad for your health

I just read an interesting post via the BBC which really outlined the importance of good sleep for health and wellbeing. We all know that a good night’s sleep is restorative and makes us feel more energised and healthy, but thanks to some research done at the University of Surrey, it was found that the activity of hundreds of genes was altered when people’s sleep was cut to less than six hours a day for a week.

Areas such as the immune system and how the body responds to damage and stress were affected. According to Professor Colin Smith from the University of Surrey, the research demonstrated that sleep is critical to rebuilding the body and maintaining a functional state, and disturbance to sleep can cause all kinds of damage appear to occur – leading to ill health.

“If we can’t actually replenish and replace new cells, then that’s going to lead to degenerative diseases,” said Professor Smith.

There is no quick fix for sleep disorders as they can present in many different conditions, such as insomnia, night terrors, teeth grinding, sleep apnea and bedwetting. And their causes are just as varied – some may stem from an underlying medical condition such as a psychological disorder, some may occur as side effects of prescribed medication and others have no known explicable reason.

This where hypnotherapy can help.

Hypnotherapy is all about changing patterns of behaviour and that is why it works so effectively as a treatment for many sleep disorders.

Hypnotherapy is used as a way of altering and reconditioning negative patterns of behaviour and it is able to do so by accessing the unconscious mind so it can seek out the root cause of the problem and alter an individual’s perception of it. Stress and anxiety are common triggers of sleep deprivation and these problems can be very effectively treated using hypnotherapy. Usually it is not a situation itself which causes stress but the way in which we react to it. By inducing a state of deep relaxation in an individual, the hypnotherapist can gain access to the unconscious mind in order to turn negative thought patterns and reactions to a particular situation into more positive ones.

So you can sleep easier.
