5 Ways to Overcome Anxiety with Hypnotherapy

How Hypnotherapy can help you overcome Anxiety

During my years as a hypnotherapist, I have met many clients who have had severe anxiety and tried everything to overcome their anxiety, only to find that nothing actually worked for them.

Anxiety is generally a fear of something, A fear of the future, a fear of flying, and a fear of being alone among many other fears. The good news is that anxiety is treatable with a mix of cognitive therapies as well as the right lifestyle. One of the methods that assists people to overcome anxiety is Hypnotherapy.

Hi, I’m Jennifer and I have been a hypnotherapist for over 20 years. It is my passion to help people overcome anxiety and improve their well-being. Living with anxiety can be a very debilitating condition, however with the right care you can recover and enjoy life as normal.

Below I will list the 5 ways that having hypnotherapy treatments for your anxiety can help you:

1 – Learn relaxation methods

During your hypnotherapy session, you will learn self-hypnosis techniques to use anywhere and anytime you need to. Once you learn this technique you will gain the confidence to know that you can be in control of yourself. You cannot get stuck in hypnosis, so I teach you how to get into a hypnosis trance. This can be a very enjoyable session because you can use it anywhere at all and it’s a great way to start and finish your days in order to have a productive day and a restful sleep.

You can also download a MP3 version of this technique that I will supply to you during your session. Breathing is also another very important method to getting relaxed as it slows down your heart rate and helps you think logically. The breathing method that I recommend is breathing in for 3 seconds through your nose, holding the breath for 3 seconds and then breathing out for 3 seconds through your nose.

Another technique that I highly recommend is to smile, this changes the chemicals in your brain. Your brain does not know the difference between what’s real and what’s not, so if you are smiling, you will signal to your brain that you are in fact happy and your physiology will follow.

2- Learn copying mechanisms

So often people look on the outside to get the answers for their problems. Hypnotherapy teaches you to go deep inside your body in order to understand what’s really going on. Hypnotherapy teaches you to start to listen to and to trust your self. When you are experiencing anxiety it might feel like you are not coping, however this is your monkey mind speaking. In hypnotherapy you will learn how to quieten this monkey mind and be present in the moment.

Being present in the moment is also a form of mindfullness and meditation which can be a very useful tool when it comes to copying with anxiety. A technique that I use to get people into the present moment is to place their hand on their heart centre and use your hand as an entry point into relaxation. Breath in through your hand straight into the heart and bypassing the chatter of your brain. This can instantly calm the mind as you are then focusing on the breathing and sitting in the wonderfull stillness. Try and do this for 10 minutes a day for maximum results.

3- Learn what your anxiety triggers are

People get triggered by noise such as the traffic or by just leaving the house as they are leaving their comfort zone. The key to learning what your triggers are is simply by paying attention to how you are feeling, If you are feeling relaxed and all of a sudden you get anxious, try and identify what was the cause of this nervous tension. Once you know what the cause is, you will be able to settle yourself before the next situation occurs.

My recommendation is to create yourself a tool box in which you will have different tools to apply when the anxiety strikes. For example you can have call a friend in your tool box, or get a massage or write down how your feeling and so on. The more tools that you have in your tool box the quicker you will become with getting back to feeling good. Hypnotherapy teaches you a variety of tools that you can add into your tool box so when you are feeling a bit under the weather you can turn to your tool box and have a much faster recovery.

4- Learn how to use tapping when Anxiety Strikes

Tapping is a great way to bring you back to the present moment when you are experiencing anxiety. Tapping is when we work on some of the Chinese meridian points in the body , for example there is gamete point which is between the little finger and the ring finger. The great thing about this tapping technique is that you can use it while you are out in public and no one will even notice. Tapping is a great way to exert some of your nervous tension while you are experiencing anxiety.

5- Learn how to manage the negative thoughts that Anxiety brings with it

As humans we are prone to have negative thoughts, it’s just a part of our evolution , however it’s only when these negative thoughts start to interfere with our everyday living that it can turn into anxiety and depression. It is said that depression is when you are thinking about the past and anxiety is when you are thinking about the future.

One of the most effective methods to deal with anxiety is to use visualisation and to see your self living happily in the future. Instead of focusing so much on negative thoughts try and envision the best version of yourself and in time your body will start to follow those visualisations. Spend at least 5 minutes a day visualising your perfect self and just like a muscle , the more you use the technique of visualisation the better you will feel.

Remember negative thoughts are normal , so don’t get too down on yourself if you feel a bit crappy from time to time , however you can actually get out of in quicker then you may think and hypnosis is definitely one of the most effective tools to assist you with this.
